There is no way McAdams' return to the Clarion-Ledger's Top 5 MHSAA Class 1A rankings could have been much sweeter.
Just a week after the Bulldogs had been knocked out of the Top 5 and replaced by Durant in the No. 5 spot, McAdams returned the favor by beating the Tigers 71-65 last Thursday and replacing them as the fifth-ranked team.
The Bulldogs and the No. 1-ranked Lady Bulldogs were set to close out the regular season at Williams-Sullivan on Tuesday, before hosting the Region 6-1A Tournament beginning on Monday.
McAdams now holds a 2-to-1 edge in the series with Durant so far this season.
Patrick Lewis scored 26 points to lead 14-4 McAdams, which led 20-12 after one quarter and 43-32 at the half. The Tigers, now 14-5 on the season, outscored the Bulldogs 21-14 in the third quarter to cut the McAdams lead to four going into the final quarter of play but the home team was able to hold on for the victory.
Jekele Snow scored 16 for McAdams, while Van Love added 10.
Cortez Frizell led Durant with 20 points, while Tevin Marzette scored 11, Garmarcus Thomas 10 and Cody James nine.
The Lady Bulldogs led 24-8 after one quarter of play on the way to a 75-40 win over Durant.
Kanesha Phillips led the way with 17 points, while Dierra Gilmore scored 16, Kierra Gilmore and Precious Ellington scored 14 each and Marquita Phillips tossed in 13.
The visiting Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs of McAdams High School had little trouble picking up basketball wins over Region 6-1A foe Edinburg High School on Friday night.
Scoring was at a premium early in the boys game, as the Bulldogs led just 7-5 after one quarter and 20-14 at the half, before opening things up over the last 16 minutes of the game to take a solid 69-38 win. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Jekele Snow with 15 points. Patrick Lewis scored 14 for 15-4 McAdams, while Jarvis Greer and Alexander Mosley picked up 12 each.
The McAdams girls didn't allow Edinburg to score in three of the four quarters played on the way to a 78-9 win. Kierra Gilmore scored 20 points to lead McAdams, while Kanesha Phillips hit for 15 and Shaquinta Winters added eight.
