At least six area high school football players were expected to sign scholarships with Holmes Community College on Wednesday, while another planned to ink with Itawamba Community College and yet another was still weighing his options.
Among those planning to sign with HCC was Kosciusko High School offensive lineman Blake Harthcock.
The 270-pounder battled injuries throughout his senior season at KHS, but still was recognized as one of the top offensive linemen in the state by being chosen for the Mississippi-Alabama Shrine Classic. He was not able to play, however, due to injury.
Joining Harthcock at Holmes Community College next season will be Antwon McCain of Ethel, Cramer Miller of Weir, Shawn Pee of Winona Christian, Joffie Hogsett of Durant and Havier Murphy of Ackerman. Nolan Long of Ackerman was set to sign with Itawamba Community College.
Versatile Ackerman High School running back/wide receiver Shawn Stricklin was still deciding which offer he was going to take as signing day closed in.
Miller, who started in the Mississippi-Alabama Shrine Classic as a safety, is hoping to get a chance to play on the offensive side of the ball in college. The bruising senior rushed for 2,007 yards on 247 carries this season, scoring 194 points in the process.
