Ethel baseball drops pair Saturday on Chicken Day

The Ethel Tiger baseball team started the week off well with a 10-3 victory over French Camp Academy.

Cye McKinney and Ryan McKinley pitched well for the Tigers, only giving up five hits and walking five.

"Both pitchers were able to throw big strikes late in the count to record some timely outs," said Ethel head coach Chris Schuster.

On the offensive side Scott Errington had a three-run homer that put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. Most all of the Tigers got in the hit column, as Ethel had 10 hits in the game.

On Friday night Kosciusko came to town and the Tigers played well for five innings before dropping a 12-0 decision.

Garrett Moyer pitched for the Tigers going nine up and none down against the Whippets over the first three innings.

"We went to battle with a b.b. gun and held our own for a long time against a 4A school," Schuster said. "I'm proud of our kids."

Sonny Leonard and McKinney got in the hit column for the Tigers.

On Saturday Ethel hosted a very successful Chicken Day.

"We would like to thank all the businesses for the donations, the community for buying the chicken plates and the parents for their involvement in making the day one to remember," Schuster said.

The varsity played West Lowndes and came out flying, scoring three runs in the first inning. In the end West Lowndes rallied to take a 6-4 win.

Hunter Dempsey blasted a two-run homer for the Tigers and Brandon Self and Errington also had hits for the Tigers, while Jon Dees and Daniel Power found ways to get on to help the Tigers jump out ahead 3-0. Dempsey pitched well for the Tigers, but in the end a bases loaded strikeout was the dagger for the Tigers.

In the nightcap the Tigers fell to Noxapater 8-6. Charlie Massey had a double for the Tigers, while McKinley, Dillon Simmons, Dees and Powers all had hits.

The next home date for Ethel will be Friday against Nanih Waiya.
