Durant Lady Tigers struggling, drop four

DURANT — The Durant Lady Tigers dropped four decisions starting on December 20, losing 49-43 to McClain.  

The Lady Tigers then went on to lose to Marshall 58-47 on the December 21, Richland 55-45 on December 22 and then to Leake Central 61-27 on December 27.  

Durant vs. McClain

The Lady Tigers got off to a good start over the Lady Mustangs and led 12-5 after the first quarter.  

The Lady Mustangs then came charging back by outscoring the Lady Tigers 14-10 in the second quarter.  

The Lady Tigers were able to take a 22-19 lead into the half.  

The Lady Tigers then struggled in the third quarter and were outscored by McClain 13-8 and found themselves trailing 32-30 as they game advanced into the fourth quarter.  

The Lady Mustangs pulled away somewhat in the fourth quarter by outscoring Durant 17-13 and won the contest 49-43.  

The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Tamara Riley with 11 points, Tajeah Campbell and Myiesha Reynolds with nine points each and Maronta Coffee with six points.  

The leading scorers for the Lady Mustangs were Keshay Jefferson with 14 points, Carmisha Nails with 12 points, Kamelia Lacy with eight points and Resha Gibson with six points.

Durant vs. Marshall

Durant then played the Marshall Lady Tigers on the following day and dropped another contest after leading at the half.  

Durant led 15-13 after one quarter of play and took a 26-22 lead into halftime.  

Marshall came out on fire in the third quarter and outscored Durant 20-10 to take a 42-36 lead into the games final stanza.  

Marshall was able to pull away in the fourth quarter by outscoring Durant 16-11 to win the contest 58-47.  

The leading scorers for Durant were Myiesha Reynolds with 21 points and GreAna Davis with 12 points.  

The leading scorers for Marshall were Niya Head with 22 points, Nhamia Wilson with 10 points, Alexis Stewart with eight points and Kanaya Jackson with six points.

Durant vs. Richland

The Lady Tigers would then play the Richland Lady Rangers and found themselves in an early hole, 17-14, after one quarter of play.  

Both teams would score 12 points in the second quarter, but Richland took a 29-26 lead into the half.  

The Lady Rangers would again outscore the Lady Tigers in the third quarter 14 -11 to take a 43-37 lead into the fourth quarter.  

The Lady Tigers were outscored in the fourth quarter 12-8 to drop the contest 55-45.  

The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Myiesha Reynolds with 11 points, Maronta Coffee with 10 points, Kayla Greer with eight points and Laquandra Thompson as well as Tajeah Campbell with six points each.



Durant vs. Leake Central

The Lady Tigers played the Leake Central Lady Gators on Thursday, December 27.  

The Lady Tigers found themselves behind early and trailed the Lady Gators 12-6 after one quarter of play.  

The Lady Gators were then able to pour it on in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Tigers 19-7 to take a 31-13 lead into the half.  

The Lady Gators didn’t let up on the Lady Tigers in the third quarter and outscored them 17-3 to take a 48-16 lead into the fourth quarter.  

The Lady Tigers were able to score 11 points in the fourth, but the Lady Gators were just too much for the Durant squad, winning the contest 61-27.  

The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Tamara Riley with nine points and Myiesha Reynolds as well as Kayla Greer with five points each.  

The Lady Tigers will next be in action on January 8 when they play Hartfield Academy in Flowood at 6 p.m.
