The Lady Whippets were at home this past Friday night when the Houston Hilltoppers paid them a visit.
The visit didn't go too well for the Lady Hilltoppers and they were soundly defeated by the Kosciusko 64-36.
The Lady Whippets led 11-9 after one quarter of play and never looked back beyond that point.
A strong offensive and defensive effort in the second quarter put the Lady Whippets in control of the Region 4 contest and they led 27-13 at the half.
As the second quarter began, it would be more of the same for the Lady Whippets as they were able to increase their lead to 57-25 after three quarters of play.
The Lady Whippets were able to add to their sizable lead in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Hilltoppers once again, 17-11 to push the final score to 64-36 in favor of the home team.
The Lady Whippets are now 10-11 overall and 2-3 in region play.
"We continue to improve every time that we play," said Lady Whippet head coach Jemmye Ann Helms. "I think a lot of our issues, even from when I first got here, are just reps. The kids have good attitudes and they play hard, even in games where we are numerically beaten they never quit playing. They always play hard, and even if they mess up, they mess up going full speed. You just can't complain when you see your kids do that."
The leading scorers for the Whippets were Amber Gilmore with a game-high 21 points, Justice Dotson with 13 points, Anna Grace Mackenzie with 12 points and Brianna Veasley with six points.
The Lady Whippets traveled to Ridgeland Tuesday night and will next play in the Region 4-4A Tournament in Houston starting next Monday night.
