KOSCIUSKO —
If you are wondering what kind of curve first-year Durant High School head football coach William "Sleepy" Robinson is going to be grading his team on this year, Friday night's 47-0 win over visiting S.V. Marshall should give you a little clue.
"We showed signs of being pretty good, but I will give us about a C," Robinson said. "We didn't execute well and we weren't able to run inside of the tackles."
But not worry Durant fans, Robinson says his Tigers still have a chance to ace the exam. "All of the things we had problems with can be corrected," he said. "Offensively, we did spread the ball around pretty well. Coach (Greg) Plump did a good job of that."
Durant, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 1A according to the Mississippi Prep Sports Source and the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters to roll to the easy win.
Cortez Frizell, who led the Tigers with 53 rushing yards on 10 carries, scored on a 80-yard punt return for Durant, while Jose Patterson caught touchdown passes of 60 and 50 yards from William Robinson II.
Durant's other touchdowns came on runs of 30 and five from David Hogsett, a 30-yard run by Davin Mitchell and a 20-yard run by Robinson.
The Tigers hit the road on Friday night to visit the 1-0 Ackerman Indians.
