To call Kosciusko's performance in the Eupora Fast-Pitch Classic on Saturday dominating, could be classified as a serious understatement.
The Lady Whippets banged out 10 hits in an 18-0 win over Starkville in their opener, before ending the day with a solid 16-0 thumping of Bruce behind 10 more hits.
"We came to play today (Saturday)," said KHS head coach Tony Terry. "We hit the ball as well as you could hit it. We had good practices on Thursday and Friday and it carried over.
"There are still a lot of things we have to get better at, but overall it was a good first step," he said.
Lyn Browning had three singles and scored two runs in the opener, while Katie Ferguson swatted a triple and single, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs.
Kaitlyn Hicks had a triple and single and two runs scored, while Mackenzie Dickerson had two singles and three runs scored, while Haleigh Warren had two RBIs to go with a double.
Nicole Engleman scored three runs for Kosy, while Jordan Gray scored twice and Kaitlin Young, Cassandra Cobb and Victoria Sheffield each crossed the plate once.
Allison Ray pitched three innings and struck out a pair for the winners.
Young had a strong pitching game for Kosy in the nightcap, striking out seven in three innings of work to pick up the win.
Cobb popped a pair of doubles, while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Ray had two doubles and four RBIs against Bruce, while Browning had two singles and a couple of runs scored.
Dickerson had a single, an RBI and three runs scored, while Warren had a single, two RBIs and two runs scored, Ferguson had a single, RBI and two runs scored and Young had a single and RBI.
Hicks tossed in an RBI, while scoring three runs, as Sheffield and Engelman scored a run each for the winners.
The Lady Whippets are scheduled to host Winona on Friday, before playing two games in the Ethel Tournament on Saturday. Kosy takes on East Webster at 11 a.m. and Ethel at 3 p.m.
ETHEL
The Ethel High School softball team saw its season delayed by three games when its scheduled contest with Noxapater for Monday was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Lady Tigers are set to begin the 2010 season under first-year head coach Jim Wood on Thursday when they visit Weir at 4 p.m.
Ethel will take on East Webster at 1 p.m. Saturday and Kosciusko at 3 p.m. at Ethel High School, before hosting Weir on Monday.
The game with Noxapater has been rescheduled for March 23.
ACKERMAN
The Ackerman High School fast-pitch softball opens the 2010 season at home against Louisville on Thursday and then entertains West Point on Friday.
The Lady Indians went 21-5 last season, winning Region 4-2A and advancing to the third round.
WEIR
The Weir High School fast-pitch softball team is set to open its season at home against Ethel on Thursday.
The next day the Lady Lions will visit Yazoo County, before traveling to Ethel on Tuesday.
