Durant wins 5-1A Tourney

The Durant Tigers entered the Region 6-1A Tournament as the  No. 1 seed and never looked back. 

The Tigers defeated Pelahatchie 65-45 last Tuesday night and then defeated Sebastopol Bobcats 62-56 for the championship on Friday night. 

In last Tuesday night’s game the Tigers took  a 13-8 first quarter lead and would also lead at the intermission 20-14. 

The Tigers put up 19 points in the third quarter and would lead the Chiefs 39-27 to start the fourth. 

The Tigers dominated in the fourth quarter and outscored the Chiefs 26-18 to take the 65-45 victory and earn a berth in the championship game. 

The leading scorers for the Tigers were Timothy McClendon with 15 points, Demario Trotter with 12 points, Theodore Haynes with 11 points and Clay Roby with 10 points.  The Tigers would then face the Sebastopol Bobcats on Friday night in the championship game where they trailed 18-15 after one quarter of play. 

The Tigers caught fire in the second quarter and were able to outscore the Bobcats 17-9 to take a 32-27 lead into the half. 

The Bobcats would come out of the half and took the lead after outscoring the Tigers 16-10. 

The Tigers trailed 43-42 as the fourth quarter began. 

The Tigers wouldn’t trail for long and were able to outscore the Bobcats 20-13 in the fourth quarter to take a 62-56 victory and the championship as well. 

The leading scorers for the Tigers were Theodore Haynes with 20 points, Clay Roby with 12 points, Demario Trotter with 11 points and Schmarcus Steverson with nine points.  Demario Trotter, Timothy McClendon and Clay Roby were named to the Region6-1A All-Tournament Team and Theodore Haynes was named the tourney MVP. 

The Tigers hosted Bogue Chitto Tuesday night in a play-in game for the Class 1A South State Tournament.
