Ethel bats ignite, Tigers push record to 6-3

ETHEL — The Ethel Tiger baseball team moved to 6-3 on the year with victories over French Camp and Noxapater, 12-0 and 11-3 respectively last Monday and Saturday.

The Tigers weren't quite as successful on Thursday night when they suffered a setback to old rival Greenville St. Joe.

On Monday night the Tigers traveled to French Camp and quickly led 2-0 after Ryan McKinley hit his third home run of the year in the first inning.

The Tigers never looked back from that point and banged out 13 hits in total on the night with Guyton Lindsay, Justin Self, Adam Myers and Parker Beall each collecting multiple hits in the five inning affair.

Ladarius Erving and Tyson Steen each added hits and an RBI as well in the Tiger onslaught.

Blake McKinley went the distance for the Tigers and struck out eight Panthers while yielding only one base hit.

"This was a big win for us," said Ethel head coach Chris Schuster.  "Our intensity was there the entire game and French Camp is a good team.  For us to go out and win like we did, it's definitely a step in the right direction."

In Thursday night's contest the Tigers would take a quick 2-0 lead over the Greenville St. Joe Irish, but the wheels would quickly come off.

Ryan McKinley got the starting nod in the contest and pitched well, giving up three hits in four innings while striking out nine hitters.

The Tigers committed eight infield errors after the second inning and the outfield would commit two, and the Tigers created a deficit that they could not overcome.  "Greenville took advantage of our youth and inexperience," added Schuster.  "We have seven players that really just played their first big game, and it was a little too much with the college scouts and the speed of the game––we were just overwhelmed.  The great thing is that I have guys that will work as hard as they can to get better and get to that next level."

The Tigers traveled to Noxapater on Saturday and came away victorious after a slow start.

The game would be deadlocked at 3-3 until the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers were finally able to break it open by plating six runs.

Lowden McAdams got the win for the Tigers and pitched five innings, striking out six.

McAdams gave up no earned runs in the contest.

Parker Beall, Brandon Weeks and Guyton Lindsay all had multiple hits for the Tigers and Ryan McKinley blasted his fourth home run of the year.

Adam Myers and Tyson Steen each had hits for the Tigers in the contest giving Ethel 10 hits for the day.

This victory would push the Tigers record to 6-3.

The Tigers participated in the Lake Invitational Tournament in Meridian on Tuesday and Wednesday and will  travel to Greenville next Tuesday night to play St. Joe once again.

They will then open region play the following Friday against the McAdams Bulldogs.
