Lady Tigers drop two in Region 5

The Ethel Lady Tigers traveled twice last week in Region 5 play losing to Noxapater 59-13 on Tuesday night and then lost a heartbreaker to Weir 29-21 on Friday night. 

In Tuesday nights contest the Lady Tigers were shut out in the first quarter by Noxapater 20-0 and never recovered. 

The Lady Tigers would find the basket for seven points in the second quarter, but Noxapater found it for 14 more points and took a 34-7 lead into the half. 

The Lady Tigers would again be outscored by Noxapater in the third quarter 18-6 and would trail 52-13 entering the fourth. 

Noxapater would again shut the Lady Tigers out in the fourth quarter while scoring seven points of their own to take the region win 59-13. 

The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Iesha Merritt with five points, Dotty Townsend with three points and Keshauri Merritt as well as Lindsey McNeal with two points each. 

The Lady Tigers would then travel to Weir last Friday night and fell behind quickly to the Lady Lions 8-2 after one quarter of play. 

The Lady Lions would outscore the Lady Tigers once again in the second quarter 9-1 to take a 17-3 halftime lead. 

The Lady Tigers would again be outscored by the hosts in the third quarter 6-3 and trailed 23-6 entering the fourth quarter. 

The Lady Tigers would come alive offensively in the fourth quarter and would outscore the Lady Lions 15-6, but were unable to overcome their earlier deficit, losing the region contest 29-21. 

The leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Iesha Merritt with nine points, Dotty Townsend with eight points and Lauren Bouchillon with two points. 

The Lady Tigers played French Camp Tuesday night and will host West Lowndes next Tuesday night in a 6 p.m. contest.
