Lady Bulldogs win Region 5-1A Tourney

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Pelahatchie to participate in the Region 6-1A Tournament and won it all by defeating The Mississippi School for the Deaf (MSD) 69-30, the Durant Lady Tigers 55-41 and the Sebastopol Lady Bobcats 52-51. 

In the first game on Monday night the No. 3 seed Lady Bulldogs jumped on the MSD by outscoring them 21-6 in the first quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs would outscore the MSD 13-11 in the second quarter to take a 34-17 lead into the half. 

The Lady Tigers used a huge third quarter to completely pull away from the MSD and led 56-21 as the fourth quarter began. 

The Lady Bulldogs again outscored the MSD 12-9 and cruised to a 69-30 victory to set up a game with the No. 2 seeded Durant Lady Tigers. 

The leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Kennedy Landfair with 14 points, Amber Newell with 12 points, Daveda Newell with 11 points and Chelsea Kilbert with 10 points. 

In Tuesday night’s, game the Lady Bulldogs were able to take a quick 21-15 first quarter lead, but were outscored 11-9 in the second quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs were able to take a 30-26 lead into the half. 

The Lady Bulldogs came back out in the third quarter and again outscored the Lady Tigers 15-10 to take a 45-36 lead to start the fourth. 

The Lady Bulldogs never looked back, outscoring the Lady Tigers 10-5 in the fourth to take the victory 55-41. 

The leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Kennedy Landfair with 16 points, Chelsea Kilbert with 15 points, Amber Newell with 13 points and Daveeda Newell with eight points. 

This victory set up the No. 3 seeded Lady Bulldogs in the championship game against the No. 1 seeded Sebastopol Bobcats on Friday night. 

The Lady Bulldogs took an early first quarter lead and led 13-11 to start the second. 

The Lady Bulldogs added to that lead in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Bobcats once again 14-10 to take a 27-21 lead into the half. 

The third quarter was more of the same for the Lady Bulldogs when they again outscored the Lady Bobcats 14-12 to take a 41-33 lead into the games final quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs were outscored by the Lady Bobcats 18-11, but were able to hang on and win the game 52-51 and the Region 6-1A Tournament. 

The leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Chelsea Kilbert with 21 points, Amber Newell with 14 points, Kennedy Landfair with nine points and Sylvia Bentley with five points. 

Daveeda Newell, Amber Newell and Kennedy Landfair were all named to the All Region 6-1A Tournament Team with freshman Chelsea Kilbert being named the MVP of the entire tournament.
