ETHEL —
The Ethel Tigers hosted the defending Class 1A State champion Noxapater Tigers last Friday night and lost the Region 3 contest 47-6.
Noxapater took a 27-6 lead into the half but were held scoreless in the third quarter by a scrappy Tiger defense.
Size and depth took its toll on the Tiger defense in the fourth quarter and Noxapater was able to tack on 20 more points to push the final score to 47-6.
The Tigers are now 2-4 on the year and 0-3 in Region 3 play.
“We played LSU last week and we are going to play Alabama this week, that’s what it feels like when you face Noxapater and Pelahatchie,” said Ethel head coach Paul A. Dees. “Noxapater’s got a real good football team, but I was disappointed in our pass protection and didn’t think we gave our quarterback too much time.”
Offensively the Tigers were led by Antez Hopkins who had 35 yards on six carries and quarterback Bobby Potts who was 2-6 passing for 13 yards.
Defensively Justin Self, Isaiah Miller and Markei Johnson led the Tigers with eight tackles each while Brady Jackson recorded five stops.
Self and Johnson each intercepted Noxapater passes with Johnson returning his 17 yards for a first quarter touchdown.
“We were able to counter early with an interception for a touchdown to make it 7-6, but we weren’t able to get any offensive production all night,” added Dees.
The Tigers travel to Pelahatchie Friday night for another Region 3 contest with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
