McAdams suffers disappointing loss

McAdams head coach Ras Bayles didn't have a long list of excuses to make regarding his team's 32-7 Region 2-1A loss to previously winless Drew on Friday night.

"We just didn't play the way we are capable of and they beat us," Bayles said. "When something went wrong, instead of working together, we starting criticizing each other. We just didn't play as a team."

Bayles says his team needs to get ready for a tough battle when the Bulldogs make the short trip to Ethel for the battle of Attala County.

"They don't have a name for it, but this is sort of our bowl game," he said. "If we could win that would be a huge start toward giving us the momentum we need going into the end of the season."

After the non-region game against 2-5 Ethel, the 3-3 Bulldogs return to Region 2-1A play when they close out the regular season with three consecutive league games.

"Those last three games will decide whether we make it to the playoffs are not," Bayles said. "We need to start playing together now, so we will be ready."

Bayles readily shared some of the blame for his team not being ready against Drew.

"I don't think I had them prepared like they needed to be," he said. "I let them get overconfident, and that is the coach's fault. We just didn't play with the same intensity like we had when we played against Montgomery County.

"Earlier in the season we were congratulating each other for good plays and things like that, but when things started going wrong against Drew we weren't supportive of each other. "

Drew jumped out to a 20-0 lead, but McAdams was able to cut it to 20-7 at the half on a 1-yard run by Malcolm Fisher. But the visiting Eagles took control of the game in the second and half and rolled to the win.

John Allen led the McAdams rushing attack with 82 yards on eight attempts, while LaDarrius Harvey had 11 carries for 36 yards.

Kentwain Mosley led the Bulldogs with seven tackles, while Rodney Carter had six stops.
