West Jones jumped to the top of the latest Mississippi Prep Sports Source Class 5A rankings with a solid 17-7 win over former No. 1 Wayne County Friday night in a game that was televised statewide.
West Point is No. 2, followed by Wayne County, Picayune and New Hope.
In a stacked Class 2A, undefeated West Bolivar survived a 17-16 scare from Shelby Broadstreet to remain at No. 1. Bassfield is No. 2, followed by Ackerman, Eupora and Puckett.
Itawamba AHS held on to its No. 1 spot in Class 4A with a narrow 16-13 win over No. 7 Pontotoc. Undefeated Shannon is No. 2, with Noxubee County, Lafayette County and St. Stanislaus close behind.
Class 3A power Tylertown moved to 9-0 and remained No. 1 in the rankings following a tough 16-7 win over No. 7 Franklin County. Three undefeated teams are right behind with 10-0 Charleston at No. 2, Perry Central (19-0), No. 3 and 9-0 Booneville No. 4. Forest nipped county rival Morton 6-2 to climb to No. 5.
Madison Central tightened its grip on the No. 1 spot in Class 6A with a 55-14 thumping of Grenada, with South Panola just behind. Clinton is No. 3 followed by Meridian and Olive Branch.
Durant and Nanih Waiya retained the top two spots in Class 1A, followed by Smithville, Weir and Mount Olive. Former No. 3 Coffeeville fell to Greenville St. Joseph 32-20.
Jackson Academy is No. 1 in the MAIS overall rankings, with Jackson Prep moving up one spot to No. 2. Former No. 2 Lamar fell to No. 9 with a stunning 48-21 road loss to Simpson Academy.
Washington School is No. 3 with undefeated Brookhaven at No. 4 and Pillow Academy No. 5.
