Ackerman claims top spot in MPSS Class 2A rankings
On the heels of its impressive 27-0 win over Hollandale-Simmons on Friday night, Ackerman High School has vaulted to the top of the Mississippi Prep Sports Source Class 2A rankings.
The AHS Indians, now 13-0 on the season, held the Blue Devils to just 29 yards of total offense, while picking up 290 of its own on the way to the solid second-round victory.
West Bolivar, also 13-0, slipped one spot to No. 2, while Bassfield is third, followed by Puckett and Eupora. West Bolivar defeated Eupora 22-11, while Bassfield whipped Loyd Star 47-14.
While Durant and Weir held on to the top two rankings in Class 1A, there was a little movement just below. Weir climbed to No. 3, followed by Sebastopol and Mount Olive. Coffeeville used a 15-12 win over previously undefeated Smithville to make it to No. 6.
There wasn't a whole lot of movement in any of the other MHSAA classes, while Jackson Academy all but locked up the final top ranking in MAIS by beating Jackson Prep 49-20 in the MAIS AAA State Championship game.
Prep is second this week, followed by Washington School,, Brookhaven Academy and Simpson Academy.
Madison Central is No. 1 in MHSAA 6A, followed by South Panola, Meridian, Clinton and Olive Branch. The top 5A team is West Jones, with West Point second and Picayune third. Moss Point and Wayne County are fourth and fifth respectively.
A banged-up Itawamba AHS team narrowly holds on to the No. 1 spot in Class 4A, while Noxubee County is No. 2, followed by Shannon, St. Stanislaus and Lafayette County.
A pair of undefeated teams, Tylertown and Charleston, hold the top two spots in 3A, with Forest, third, Morton fourth and Booneville fifth.
