Kosy boys beat Neshoba; Lady Whippets down past West Point

The Kosciusko High School boys soccer team picked up its first win of the season, rallying for a 3-2 win over Neshoba Central.

The Lady Whippets are now 3-1 on the season, following a 5-1 loss to Neshoba Central and a 5-1 win over West Point.

The Whippets (1-1) turned around an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Rockets 3-2. Neshoba Central jumped on Kosciusko early and fast, but there was no quit in Coach Dustin Horne’s Whippets.

The Whippets began to build their attack as they tied the game up 2-2 going into the second. There were many shots and struggles during the second. The two teams battled deep into the second half. With a little more than 10 minutes left in the game, Ben Patterson lined up a free kick and placed in the back of the net to secure the Whippets first victory of the season. That was Patterson’s second goal of the night. Dylan Kerr scored the other goal for the Whippets.

The Lady Rockets handed the Lady Whippets their first defeat of the season. The teams began the contest fairly matched but about 10 minutes in to the first half the Lady Rockets scored their first of four goals in that half.

The second half traveling fans witnessed a little better game by the Lady Whippets, capped off with a goal with 15 minutes left in the game. This was Anna Miles first goal of the season. The Lady Whippets lost the contest 5-1.

“We had a long week”, said head coach Lindsay Dickerson. “We had three games in one week and our girls looked a little fatigued in this contest. Our hats go off to Neshoba Central tonight. They were a little more aggressive and wanted it more than we did.”

The Lady Whippets bounced back to defeat West Point Lady Green Wave 5-1, needing only one half to win their third game of the season.

The match started with Kosciusko having total control of the ball and the game. Eight minutes into the game, Mackenzie Dickerson broke free unassisted and found the back of the net for her first goal of the match. Just three minutes later, Dickerson found teammate Emily Ray, who punched the ball in for her first goal of the game. Two minutes later, West Point defense deflected a ball, which Dickerson fired in for her second goal of the game.

The Whippets went 16 minutes without another goal. In that time, West Point found the back of the net off a long shot. The next two scores for the Whippets came at the 30 and 35 minute marks. Both goals unassisted and belonging to Dickerson.

The Lady Whippets out-hustled and outplayed the Lady Green Wave. Kosciusko compiled 26 shots on the night and only allowed nine.

“We played Kosciusko Soccer tonight”, said assistant coach Greg Cooper. “We possessed the ball and used the whole field tonight and our offense really stepped up the pressure.”

You know we live in a fast paced world of high tech equipment and we want everything immediately. Maybe I am a low-tech redneck because I reckon I still like some things the old fashion way with a slower pace.
