KOSCIUSKO —
The Kosciusko High School golf team started off where they left off last year by continuing to win by defeating nine teams in the Forest Invitational last Wednesday.
The team is composed of Alex Chadick, Austin Terrell, Holden Singletary, Jared Potter, Griffin Pickle, Cole Crosby, Hunter Ray, Dylan Lassiter, Evan Thomas and Pasquel Massey.
The Whippets won the invitation with a low-score of 335 followed by Union with 343, Newton County with 357, Brandon with 367, St. Andrew’s with 370, Forest with 375, McLaurin with 387, Raleigh with 410, Philadelphia with 424 and Choctaw Central with 436.
Jonathan Amis of Newton County was the medalist with a nine-hole score of 80.
The top five for Kosciusko were Alex Chadick with 81, Austin Terrell with 82, Griffin Pickle with 85, Cole Crosby with 87 and Jared Potter with 90.
The top players from the other schools were: Chandler Powell of Forest with 87, Hunter Ketteringham and Avery Duncan of Philadelphia with 102 each, Joseph Dendy of Brandon with 84, John Chase Bryan of St. Andrew’s with 83, Zack Hammons of Raleigh with 90, Andy Ogleree of Union with 81, Houston Jennings of McLaurin with 86 and Nick Shumake of Choctaw Central with 101.
The remaining schedule for Kosciusko is March 5 at Starkville starting at 315 on the MSU course, March 7 at Germantown starting at 1 p.m. on the Canton Country Club, March 20 at Choctaw Central starting at 3 p.m. on the Dancing Rabbit Course, March 21 at Kosciusko against Philadelphia starting at 3 p.m., March 25 at Pearl starting at 9 a.m. at the Pearl Municipal, April 2 at Grenada stating at noon on Dogwoods Course, April 4 at Kosciusko against Starkville starting at 3 p.m., April 9 at Ridgeland starting at 9 a.m. on Whisper Lake, April 11 at Kosciusko starting at 9 a.m. and the District will be on April 18 with time and site to be arranged.

Spring drills end for area high schools
The Ethel Tigers finished up spring football during the second week of May and coach Paul Dees said his team accomplished a lot in the days that they had to work together. Myer wins state, Hill finishes third
The third time is the charm for Mitchell Myer at the 4A MHSAA State Track Meet. In 2011 Mitchell finished fourth with 11-00.00 and in 2012 he finished sixth with a leap of 11-00.00. On Monday, May 13, Mitchell vaulted 12-06.00 to capture his fifth victory to stay undefeated for the year.

To the wire, Kosy defeats Braves
The Kosciusko Whippets were in good shape after Friday night’s 8-0 win over the visiting Tishomingo Braves, but a set-back in Iuka on Saturday, a 3-2 loss, put the fast dogs’ season in jeopardy.

Tigers finish season 15-13
The Ethel Tigers were fresh off a thrilling first round sweep of French Camp when they traveled to Stringer on Saturday for game one of the best-of-three series.
The Tigers would drop game one 5-3.
Game one had been pushed from Thursday to Saturday due to inclement weather, pushing game two to Monday night in Ethel, to which the Tigers fell once again, 7-2. -
Kosy moves to third round
The Kosciusko Whippets had a bitter taste in their mouths from 2012’s playoff series loss to New Albany in three games.
That taste is clearly better now, and New Albany was once again the foe. -
Kosy boys and girls track head to State meet
The Kosciusko boys and girls track teams participated in the North State Track meet at Pontotoc on May 4 and will be sending one boys and four girls to the Class 4A State Meet at Pearl on May 13

Martin inducted into Hall of Fame
Railford “Randy” Martin was inducted into the Holmes Community College Sports Hall of Fame on April 25.
