KOSCIUSKO — The Lady Whippets played six ball games last week, winning five to push their season record to 7-3. 

The Lady Whippets defeated Yazoo County twice, 14-4 and 12-0, fell to Houston 13-3, defeated Charleston 10-1, Winona 7-0 and Calhoun City 15-6.



Yazoo County - 4@Kosciusko - 14

Katie Lawrence got the starting nod for the Lady Whippets last Tuesday night and pitched 4.2 innings allowing eight hits while walking one and striking out five. 

Madeline Jenkins pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing no hits while striking out three hitters. 

Offensively the Lady Whippets were led by Ashley Trehern with two singles and one run scored, Coy Ballard with a double and two runs scored, Sydney Rawson with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, Abigail Myers with a home run, one run scored and two RBI and Heather Skelton with a triple, one run scored and two RBI. 

Rounding out the offense for the Lady Whippets were Kali Roberts with one run scored, Saige Doty with one run scored, C. J. Williams with one run scored and one RBI, Kara Rhodes with two runs scored, Kelsey Wiggers with one run scored and one RBI and Nicole Englemann with one run scored and two RBI.

 

Yazoo County – 0@Kosciusko – 12

In the second game of the doubleheader with Yazoo County Abigail Myers got the starting nod and pitched brilliantly, giving up no hits and two walks in five innings. 

The Lady Whippets were led offensively by Kali Roberts with a single and a double with two runs scored and one RBI, Heather Skelton with two singles, two runs scored and two RBI and Abigail Myers with another home run with one run scored and one RBI. 

“We played really hard and hit the ball extremely well off a good pitcher,” said Kosciusko head coach Tony Terry.  “We are growing as we go with this young group, but we are starting to show the potential we have.”



Kosciusko – 3@Houston – 13

The Lady Whippets traveled to Houston last Thursday night and Abigail Myers again got the starting nod and took the loss. 

The Lady Whippets were not quite as successful in pushing across runs but they did bang out six hits on the night. 

Offensively Ashley Trehern led the Lady Whippets with two hits while Coy Ballard, Abigail Myers, C. J. Williams and Nicole Englemann all collected one hit each during the contest. 

Rounding out the Lady Whippets offense were Heather Skelton with two runs scored and Kelsey Wiggers with one run scored.



Kosciusko – 10 Charleston – 1 @Winona Tournament

The Lady Whippets traveled to Winona Saturday and  played three games with the first being against Charleston. 

Madeline Jenkins would get the win for the Lady Whippets after striking out four and yielding one hit in two innings. 

Bailie Gowan  pitched one inning for the Lady Whippets and gave up one run on one hit while Sarah Caroline Henderson pitched one inning, striking out two hitters.  Offensively, the Lady Whippets were led by Kali Roberts with two singles and one run scored, Coy Ballard with one single and one triple, Kelsey Wiggers with two singles and two runs scored and C. J. Williams with one single and one run scored with three RBI.  Scoring runs for the Lady Whippets to round out the offense were Saige Doty, Melissa Gowan, Ashley Trehern and Nicole Englemann with one each and Kara Rhodes with two runs scored.

 

Kosciusko – 7 Winona – 0 @Winona Tournament

The Lady Whippets would then play Winona, the host team, and Katie Lawrence got the win by striking out 10 batters in five innings. 

Lawrence would give up only two hits while walking one.  The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Kali Roberts with a single and a run scored, Kara Rhodes with a double and a run scored, Abigail Myers with a single and a run scored and Heather Skelton with a single and a run scored. 

Ashley Trehern, Sydney Rawson and Nicole Englemann  rounded  out the offense for the Lady Whippets by scoring one run each.

 

Kosciusko – 15 Calhoun City – 6 @Winona Tournament

The Lady Whippets would finish the day strong with a convincing 15-6 victory over Calhoun City to go into Spring Break on a positive note after winning five of six on the week. 

Abigail Myers would notch another win for the Lady Whippets after pitching four innings, yielding seven hits and three walks. 

Offensively the Lady Whippets were led by Kali Roberts with three singles and two runs scored, Ashley Trehern with a double and a single with two runs scored and four RBI, Coy Ballard with three singles and one run scored, Abigail Myers with two singles and one run scored and Sydney Rawson with a double and a single with two runs scored and two RBI. 

Kara Rhodes, Saige Doty, Nicole Englemann, and Bre Barrentine would round out the Lady Whippet offense by scoring one run each with Heather Skelton touching the dish twice as well. 

“I was really proud of the effort we gave today in the tournament,” added Terry.  “It was a good team effort with a lot of contributions all around.  The pitchers performed well, we hit the ball hard and the baserunning was much improved.” 

The Lady Whippets are now 7-3 on the year after reeling off five wins on the week and will play again next Tuesday when they host Noxubee County at 5 p.m. 

“We are learning to be aggressive and take the extra base which leads to runs,” concluded Terry.  “We are extremely young but we are growing with each outing, and our tough early season schedule is preparing us for division play.” 

The Lady Whippets will  travel to Caledonia for another 5 p.m. contest on Thursday and then on to Starkville on Friday before ending the week next Saturday in the Choctaw Central Tournament.
