Singletary, Terrell sign with MCC

KOSCIUSKO — Holden Singletary and Austin Terrell will both get a chance to continue their golfing careers at Meridian Community College after both recently signed national letters of intent with the Eagles.

They will be coached by Ronnie Key, who was very happy to have both sign with Meridian.

“I’m looking forward to working with them and they will do very well for us.”

Both Singletary and Terrell, only sophomores at the time, were key players in the Whippets’ 2011 Class 4A State Championship.

Both shot rounds in the 70s on the second day of the 36-hole State Tournament in 2011 to unseat the two-time defending State Champions, Itawamba AHS.

This championship would be Kosciusko’s first since 1995.

“I was super-excited to get this offer,” said Singletary.  “I’ve been working hard and waiting on this for awhile.  I plan to play two years at Meridian and hopefully earn a D1 scholarship.”

Singletary stated that he plans on going pro after his college days if everything works out on the links for him, but he has a back-up plan in place if that doesn’t happen.

“I want to go into professional golf management,” added Singletary.  Terrell is not quite sure what he will do professionally, but going pro in golf is his ultimate plan.

“I plan on working hard and making it to the Division 1 level as well, and hopefully go pro after that,” stated Terrell.  “We’ve been friends since we were little and it’s going to be good to know somebody when we get there.”

Both Terrell and Singletary work out together quite often, and it’s not uncommon to see them hitting balls together at the links or just hanging out, but they both still feel like they have work to do before they leave the high school ranks, and both agreed––“We want another state championship.”

Holden is the son of Eddie and Lisa Singletary and Austin is the son of Denny and Amy Terrell.
