CHCS drops pitcher’s duel to TCA

By Austin Bishop

Central Holmes ran into a strong pitching performance last thursday when Tri-County's Derek Martin and Lane Williams combined for a two-hitter in a 5-0 win, while striking out 13 batters.

Hunter Blain did his job on the mound for Central Hinds as well, going a full six innings and striking out 11, while throwing a one-hitter and allowing just one earned run.

Blain and Blake Rutherford each had hits for the Trojans, who are now 2-3 on the season.

Next up for CHCS is a trip to Hebron Christion on Thursday, before facing Strider and Winona Christian on Friday.

ACKERMAN

The Ackerman baseball team began a string of four road games on Monday when it opened spring break with a trip to Booneville.

The next home game for the Indians is scheduled for March 30 against Eupora.

AHS dropped a 10-5 decision to Louisville in the first game on Saturday, before falling to Philadelphia 6-3 in the second contest.

The Indians scored three runs in the second and one in the first to build a 4-1 lead over Louisville, before the Wildcats hit for one in the fourth and eight in the fifth to take control of the game.

Shawn Stricklin had a homer, single and two RBIs to lead Ackerman at the plate, while Caleb McMinn added two singles and Dakota Brasher had an RBi single.

Philadelphia took a 5-0 lead in the second game, before Andrew Furr ripped a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for Ackerman to cut the Tornadoes edge to 5-3.

Andrius Huddleston had four hits to lead Philadelphia.

FRENCH CAMP

The French Camp Academy baseball team looks to get into the win column when it opens region play next week.

The Panthers, who were 0-2 going into a scheduled game with J.Z. George last week, are off this week for spring break.

FCA is set to visit Weir on Tuesday and then host East Oktibbeha on Friday, March 26 in a pair of league contests. After taking on McAdams in a non-league contest on March 30, the Panthers then have three consecutive region games scheduled.
