Whippets ready to face region foes

By Austin Bishop

The Kosciusko High School baseball team, which was 7-1 going into a Tuesday afternoon game against Mendenhall in the Lake/Rush Invitational, will get into the thick of Region 4-4A play next week.

After visiting Morton in a non-league game on Saturday, the Whippets host Amory on Tuesday and Noxubee County on Friday. The next week sees two more home league games for the Whippets as they host Louisville on Tuesday, March 30 and Caledonia Friday, April 2.

KHS is currently 1-0 in the league, thanks to a 7-4 win over Houston last week.

The Whippets split a pair of games in the Lake/Rush Invitational on Monday, thumping Newton County 15-1 behind a nine-hit attack, before dropping a 7-3 decision to an undefeated St. Aloysius squad.

Coy Sorenson picked up the win on the mound for Kosy against Newton County to move to 3-0 on the season. Patrick Stewart had a singe and double for the winners, while Cole McBride had two singles and Dylan Parker slashed a triple.

Tyler Owen had two hits for KHS against St. Al, while Kenny Barron had a double.
