DURANT —
The Tigers of Durant High School continue their march to Jackson and another shot at the MHSAA Class 1A State championship.
Durant had little trouble on Friday night, posting a 60-0 win over crosstown rival Williams-Sullivan in a game that was played with a running clock during the entire second half.
The Tigers, now 3-0, are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by both the Mississippi Prep Sports Source and the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. have yet to be scored upon this season. They have outscored opponents a combined 142-0 this season. Durant plays host to Coffeeville for its Region 3-1A opener on Friday night.
Cortez Frizell scored four touchdowns, three coming on runs of 5, 19 and 10 yards and another on a 40-yard punt return to lead Durant. William Robinson was 3-for-3 passes will all of his completions being for touchdowns — 8 yards to David Hogsett, 37 yards to Cedrick Common and 38 yards to Jose Patterson.
Williams-Sullivan, now 1-2 on the season, returns to action on Friday when the Yellowjackets pay a visit to S.V. Marshall.
