KOSCIUSKO —
Who ever thought in their right mind that Notre Dame ever had a chance?
I’m not writing this to the Bama crowd because we are obviously in Mississippi, but really, did you ever believe the Irish stood a chance?
Notre Dame appeared slower, weaker and just outgunned across both lines.
The Fighting Irish could not beat the top five or six teams in the SEC, and Texas A&M would have hung 70 on them.
I spent most of the game wondering if they still spray-painted the golden helmets like they did in Rudy’s day, you know the tradition that the students had at one time the night before a game.
I couldn’t quite tell if the silver snaps and other hardware had been painted over or if the helmets now just come in that particular shade of gold.
I didn’t see any gold streaks on the Tides scarlet helmets, so maybe they just come that way now.
That was how I entertained myself throughout the game, really it was––and I also came to the conclusion that Forrest Gump would still be running kick-offs and punts back against this extremely overmatched Irish team.
He would have returned at least two kicks anyway.
The game really became interesting to me when A. J. McCarron got shoved by his own center Barrett Jones after the two had a little catfight in front of 300 million people while at the line of scrimmage.
Alabama was winning decisively at this point and it became apparent to me that Jones didn’t want, nor did he care for, whatever McCarron was cooking.
McCarron got into Jones’ grill, and Jones removed him promptly.
An unusual circumstance that just added to the weirdness of the evening, especially with ESPN analyst Brent Musburger and his infatuation with McCarron’s girlfriend.
But anyway, those golden domers need not cross the Mason-Dixon anytime soon, nothing down here but heartache and down home whoopings.
You may not be an Alabama fan, I can assure you that I’m not, but there is no doubt that the athletes in the SEC are just different, and the passion is untouched by any conference……..seven straight BCS Championships––unbelievable.
This was not like a box of chocolates, never was.
You knew exactly what you were getting before you ever opened the box.
Run Forrest!!! Run!!!
