KOSCIUSKO —

The Lady Whippets traveled to Ridgeland last Tuesday night and lost in a close one to the Lady Titans 41-38.

Both teams had trouble finding the basket early on, but the Lady Titans took an 8-4 lead after one quarter of play.

The Lady Whippets came charging back in the second quarter and were able to take a 22-20 lead into the half.

The third quarter was a dismal one for the Lady Whippets when they were only able to put up three points.

The Lady Titans took advantage by scoring 11 points of their own to take a 31-25 lead into the games final quarter.

The Lady Whippets were able to outscore the Lady Titans in the fourth quarter 13-10, but fell just short of Ridgeland and lost the contest 41-38.

“We played hard and sized up with them well,” said Lady Whippet head coach Jemmye Ann Helms.  “We did miss a bunch of shots right up under the rim and didn’t finish.  Near the end of the game, we became really aggressive trying to take it to the bucket.  That’s something I’ve been trying to get them to do all year, we just couldn’t knock them down.”

The leading scorers for the Lady Whippets were Justice Dotson with 12 points, Tamara Zollicoffer as well as Brianna Veasley with seven points each and Phalisity Williams with six points.

The Lady Whippets played Houston in the Region 4-4A Tournament Tuesday night at Houston.
