Lady Whippets win one, drop two

KOSCIUSKO —

The Kosciusko Lady Whippets started the week off right with a thorough trouncing of the Starkville Lady Jackets 14-1 last Tuesday night. 

The Lady Whippets then hit the road and lost twice, once on Thursday 10-6 to Northwest Rankin and again on Friday 9-0 to Philadelphia. 

In Tuesday night’s game against Starkville the Lady Whippets sent Abigail Myers to the center circle where she pitched a strong four innings and allowed only one run on one hit while walking three and striking out six in the 14-1 home victory. 

The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Kali Roberts with two singles and two runs scored, Coy Ballard with a double and a single with four RBI, Sydney Rawson with two doubles and one run scored with one RBI, Kara Rhodes with a triple and a single, C. J. Williams with two singles and one run scored and Myers with two singles.  Rounding out the offensive onslaught for the Lady Whippets were Ashley Trehern with three runs scored and an RBI, Kaylee Ables with two runs scored and two RBI, Heather Skelton with two runs scored, Alyssa Williams with one run scored, Melissa Gowan with one run scored and Jennifer Pope with one run scored. 

In Thursday night’s game with Northwest Rankin the Lady Whippets fell 10-6. 

Myers again took the center circle pitching 2.1 innings giving up six hits while walking two and striking out one. 

Katie Lawrence finished the game for the Lady Whippets and went 3.2 innings and giving up only two hits while striking out two batters. 

The leading hitters for the Lady Whippets were Ashley Trehern with a double and a single with one RBI and two runs scored, Coy Ballard with a double and a single with one RBI and one run scored and Kara Rhodes with two singles. 

Rounding out the offense for the Lady Whippets were Kali Roberts with one run scored, Sydney Rawson with two runs scored, C.J. Williams with two RBI and Kelsey Wiggers with two RBI. 

The Lady Whippets would then travel to Philadelphia on Friday and were shut out by the Lady Tornadoes 9-0. 

Katie Lawrence got the starting nod for the Lady Whippets and pitched 3.1 innings allowing six hits while striking out four. 

Madeline Jenkins pitched the remaining 2.2 innings and gave up four hits while striking out three.  C. J. Williams collected two hits for the Lady Whippets. 

The Lady Whippets hosted Yazoo County Tuesday night and will travel to Houston Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. contest. 

They will participate in the Winona Tournament on Saturday, times and opponents are TBA.
