Sanders, Shrock wed in May ceremony in Durant

Doctor Sara Janes Shrock and Doctor Shawn Whinery Sanders were married May 2, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Durant, with Rev. Gene Richardson officiating.

Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Wirt Fletcher Shrock, Jr. of Durant and Mr. and Mrs. Steve William Sanders of Jackson. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Wirt F. Shrock, Sr. and the late Mr. Shrock of Goodman, and the late Dr. Julian and Irma Lee Janes of McComb. The groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Whinery of Carthage, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Roger W. Sanders of Carthage.

Dr. Kathy King provided the nuptial music. Miriam Webb sang “Be Thou My Vision” and “For the Glory of Your Name”. As part of the wedding ceremony, Rachel Harbarger read a scripture chosen by the couple.

Entering to “Trumpet Voluntary” on the arm of her father, Sara wore an Elizabeth Darcy design of lace and organza. The ivory gown featured a fitted bodice with an intricate lace overlay and lace halter neckline. The organza skirt was adorned with lace along the hemline to the chapel length train. Her single tier veil of ivory illusion was edged in lace. She carried a bouquet of white roses, hydrangeas, and orchids.

Jessica Shrock Donald of Madison served her sister as matron of honor, and Laura Katherine Shrock of Durant served her sister as maid of honor. Also attending the bride was Carrie Elizabeth Shrock of Philadelphia, cousin of the bride, Tara Eevon Fulton of Hattiesburg, cousin of the groom, Anne Elisabeth Peacock of Dallas, Texas, and Brittany Lawrence Waggener of Cleveland. They wore floor length celadon European satin gowns with an ivory sash and carried bouquets of white roses and hydrangeas. Honorary bridesmaid was Jenni Hudson Cain of Sallis, and the bride’s proxy was Molly Matthews Frascogna of Jackson.

Steve Sanders served his son as best man. Groomsmen were Steven William Sanders of Dallas, Texas, brother of the groom, William Jacob Donald of Madison, brother-in-law of the bride, Louis Patrick Frascogna of Jackson, Jonathan Wade Miles of Washington, D.C., and David Robert Sayers of Dayton, Ohio.

The guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lewis and Mr. Martin Frazure. Guests were registered by Megan McCleskey. Program attendants were Ashely Self and Kelly Rucker. Mrs. Linda Frazure directed the wedding.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Howard-Dickerson Building. The bride’s table, covered with the skirt of her aunt’s wedding dress, bore a four-tiered round wedding cake topped with fresh flowers. The food tables featured beautiful arrangements of white hydrangeas, roses, and lilies.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted an elegant dinner at the Howard-Dickerson Building. A bridesmaids’ brunch hosted by the bride’s grandmother, aunts, and cousins was held on the morning of the wedding. Friends of the bride’s family hosted a luncheon for out of town guests at the First United Methodist Church.

After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple is at home in Jackson where they are both beginning their residencies in Internal Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
