KOSCIUSKO — A two-week investigation led the  Attala County Sheriff’s Department to charge an Attala County man Friday evening.

While serving a search warrant, Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail said the department discovered four guns, $409, crack cocaine valued at $2,000, liquor and a cooler of beer at the residences of Johnnie Chalmers.

Chalmers, 71, has been charged with possession of a scheduled substance (cocaine), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of liquor in a dry county.

“Drugs will not be tolerated in Attala County,” Nail said.

A 1998 Lincoln Town Car was also seized.

As of Tuesday, Chalmers was in Attala County Jail with bond being set at $30,000.

Assisting Nail in the arrest were investigators Zelie Shaw and Randy Blakely and  deputies Hugh Curry and Jimmy Nunn.
