Fancher assumes role of president; State allows $18,000 for Circuit drug court

KOSCIUSKO — A new year started with changes for the Attala County Board of Supervisors.

Attala County District 2 Supervisor Charles Fancher assumed the role of board president during the meeting Monday at the Attala County Chancery Building.

District 4 Supervisor Kary Ellington had been serving as board president over the past year.

District 1 Supervisor Eddie Womble was elected as vice president and county attorney Scott Pickle and County and State Aid engineer Christian Gardner retained their positions.



Drug court

The board also made a budget amendment for the circuit drug court.

Chancery Clerk Gerry Taylor said the state had approved $18,000 for the Fifth District Drug Court and all start up cost would be reimbursed.

The court would meet once or twice a month in the Attala County Courthouse and two drug court personnel would handle the everyday operations, including drug testing and collecting payment for the program.

David Bain, a retired parole officer, would be overseeing the court as an administrator.

The 5th District is made up of Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Grenada, Montgomery, Webster and Winston Counties.

The board approved the following:

–Claims docket

–Second quarter budget for the sheriff and tax collector

–Robert Alexander’s resignation from the Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital Board.

–Appoint Tim Cook to the hospital board.

–DEQ grant application

–Travel to the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Mid-Winter Conference January 7-9 and Coroner’s Winter Conference January 9-11

–Bids for county depository and reappraisal services.
