Records getting backed up

KOSCIUSKO — Attala County land records will be digitized back to 1961. On Monday during the Attala County Board of Supervisors meeting, Chancery Clerk Gerry Taylor said he had been working on finding a company to do this for more than a year.

He said, ironically, he is presenting this proposal to the board after the fire that destroyed the Webster County Courthouse and many records were lost.

The supervisors were in favor of the proposal of Foresight Computers and Networking doing the work.

In the future, Taylor said more records could be backed up but going back to 1961 would take care of an immediate need.

A copy of the digitized files will be stored off county property in case of a disaster.

Fisher Fire Extinguisher Services will also be going to inspect the county buildings’ fire extinguishers. This is a yearly procedure.

The board approved the following items:

– Claims docket

– Cafeteria plan documents and contract for Southern Administrators and Benefit Consultants

–Advertise for a re-seal road project

–Advertise for a new or used dump truck for District 4.

–Stop payments on county-issued checks that have been out for 90 days or more.

The new inter-local E-911 agreement between Attala County and the City of Kosciusko was presented to the supervisors and will be adopted at a later meeting.

The next board of supervisors meeting will be February 18 at the Attala County Chancery Building at 9 a.m.
