KOSCIUSKO —
A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 14 the first step toward a new home for four Kosciusko families.
Administered through Central Mississippi Inc., the homes will be built in Woodard Park Subdivision, named for the late Barbara Woodard, who served as CMI executive director from 1982-1999. It is located just off Highway 43 north.
The homes are being provided through a $330,000 development grant from the Housing Assistance Council in Washington, D.C. and a construction administration grant of $317,540 from USDA, according to Minnie Greer, director of the CMI office in Kosciusko.
The new homeowners will be Betty Gordon, Shereka and Eddie Boyd, Learmal Martin and Freddie and Bessie Love.
Since 1997, 80 homes have been built in Attala and Holmes Counties through Mutual Self Help Housing. Construction is expected to begin in mid-July, Greer said.

When a call is placed to the Attala County E-911, dispatchers are able to quickly pinpoint the location of the caller through a digital map on a computer screen thanks to a new top-of-the-line operating system.

Forty-three members of Kosciusko civic clubs met in the City Hall Tuesday night. They formed an organization called the Natchez Trace Tourist Attraction Association of the Chamber of Commerce. Jones Woodward was elected president of the new group.
