Barber, Ware case won’t be heard in March; three other murder cases on docket

KOSCIUSKO — The Attala County Circuit Court Docket for March has been set with three murder cases.

However, the murder case against Frankie Barber and Barry Ware will not be one of those cases.  No information was released about why that case would not be heard in the upcoming term.

Barber and Ware, were charged with murder following the January 7, 2012, shooting of Cedric Montae Sharkey, 24, of Sallis, off of Attala County Road 4106.

Sharkey wrecked the car, left the vehicle, and fled into the woods. Barber and Ware chased him on foot and shots were fired. Sharkey’s body was found with a shot in the chest area.

Steven Barber, Frankie’s son, has been charged with accessory to murder after the fact in the case.

Drive-by shooting

Markeith Fleming’s day in court has been set for March 27. Fleming has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in a September drive-by shooting.

Christopher Graham was fatally wounded and Derrick Hannah was in critical condition following the shooting on Youth Center Road/Attala County Road 4202.

Four hours was spent working the crime scene by the sheriff’s department, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the Mississippi Crime Lab.

Fleming, 21, of Sallis, turned himself into authorities hours after the shooting.

Assault turns murder

The aggravated assault case against James Earl “Small World” Sandifer turned to murder when Annette Riley died in January from injuries she sustained.

Sandifer was charged by the Kosciusko Police Department on April 22 following a March 30 incident on Peeler Street.

The indictment read that Sandifer, 48, hit Riley with his fists and she was pushed onto rocks. Riley was transported to Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital and later University Medical Center.

According to court records, officers interviewed her at UMC and described her condition as having “breaking assistance,” and unable to move her legs and only slight movement in her arms.

She was unable to speak but was able to understand and answer yes and no questions.

The trial set for March 13.

Shooting death

Chelssia Bell has a court date of March 19 for the shooting death of Leonard Gentry.

Gentry was shot on September 22 and later died while in the hospital.
