Aspiring physical therapist, community volunteer named Youth of the Year

KOSCIUSKO — Selected among several local outstanding youth, Sabrina Denise Caldwell was named 2013 Youth of the Year for Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club of Kosciusko & Attala County.

Caldwell will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the Mississippi State Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation.

Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.

Caldwell is among hundreds of local Youth of the Year winners across the country recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America for her sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

She is the daughter of Roschella and Billy Caldwell. She has two sisters and one brother.

She is currently a senior at Kosciusko High School where she has maintained a 3.0 grade point average.

Her awards include: Advanced on Biology I, Algebra I and English II.

Caldwell loves to serve her community.

She is the secretary for the Mayor’s Youth Council, a hospice volunteer for Sta-Home, a member of the Keystone and the Leadership Club at the OWBGC and a member of the KHS Beta Club.

She is also currently enlisted in United States National Guard.

Caldwell plans to attend Meridian Community College to major in physical therapy and later go on to a major university to further her education.

She is well-known at her school for her warm smile and open heart.

Others participating in the Youth of the Year contest were: Sabrina Caldwell, Alizeyah Kern, Tiron Talley, Biancca Ball, and Autumn Lewis. Lewis was named runner-up.
