Kosciusko City School District has finished in the top 10 school districts in the state with the release of the Mississippi Department of Education's test results on Friday.
“Out of 152 school districts, we ranked sixth with a QDI of 196,” KCSD Superintendent Dr. Tony McGee said.
The entire district received the classification of “B” or high performing.
Kosciusko Upper Elementary was named to the top of the list being rated an “A” or Star School for the second year in a row. Kosciusko Jr. High was named “B” or high performing school and Kosciusko High School classified as “C” or successful school.
According to the MDE, schools and districts received performance classification letter grades of “A-F.”
The new performance classification labels replaced the formerly used labels of Star, High Performing, Successful, Academic Watch, Low Performing, At-Risk of Failing and Failing.
“We are very proud of our students, their parents, teachers and administrators for putting in hard work,” McGee said.
There were “bright spots” in the district.
McGee noted that fifth grade mathematics scores were in the Top 3 in the state and gains were made in sixth grade language.
The high school was rated successful. McGee said students excelled in Algebra I and the high schoolers scores indicated that they would be classified as “B” or high performing. However, since growth was not met, they registered a successful “C.”
Classifications included achievement and academic growth or improvement.
Achievement is measured by the Quality of Distribution Index (QDI), with the minimum QDI zero and the maximum at 300.
Growth, on the other hand, is based on whether students demonstrate performance equal to or better than expected based on how they performed the previous school year.
