Man dies at scene of vehicle fire

KOSCIUSKO — The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Kosciusko man.

MHP Cpl. Ben Williams said Douglas Burt, 45, of Kosciusko pulled over his vehicle on Highway 43, where he apparently had a heart attack.

The vehicle caught on fire and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, Williams said on Monday.

Attala County Coroner Sam Bell pronounced Burt dead at the scene.

Bell said the body had been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

MedStat Ambulatory Services, Attala County Fire Department and the Attala County Sheriff’s Department responded the the call in addition to the MHP.
