Honored guests and Kosciusko citizens turned out for Monday’s Memorial Day Aisle of Honor program. The young and old alike were in attendance at the ceremony that was held at Parkway cemetery honoring soldiers past who paid the ultimate sacrifice of protecting the nation’s freedom.
Special guests including retired State Senator from Brandon, Charlie Ross, patients from the Mississippi State Veterans Home and the Lee family of deceased Marine Corporal Dustin Jerome Lee, along with Lee’s military working dog, Lex.
Jerome and Rachael Lee, father and mother of Cpl. Lee, and Lex visited with veterans and guests before the ceremony began.
The many flags in Parkway Cemetery that formed the aisle were vibrant and bright in the sunshine and waved in the passing wind of Monday’s beautiful weather.
Beth Travers, Activities Dirctor at the Kosciusko veteran’s home, said that the ceremony was “..an amazing site to see.” It was the first time for Travers to attend the program since its founding in 1993. “It was more than I had expected, it was beautiful,” said Travers.
Afterwards, Lex, along with the Lee family, returned to the VA home where they socialized with residents for about two hours, “Everyone got a chance to see him(Lex),” Travers continued.
