Kosciusko senior Thomas Brunt is among “the best of the best, the cream of the crop” in Mississippi high schools, according to Mississippi High School Activities Association executive director Don Hinton.

The Kosciusko baseball team dropped two of three contests last week and wound up third in the Region 4-4A standings.

Ethel’s fast-pitch softball team wrapped up the Region 5-1A regular-season championship last week while also piling up three victories.

Blake Wilkinson tossed a complete game to help Ethel knock off French Camp Academy 3-2 last week, earning the Tigers a division split with the Panthers.

FCA had beaten the visiting Tigers 6-3 on Tuesday before Ethel regrouped and posted a 3-2 win on Thursday.

French Camp begins its quest for an MHSAA 1A baseball championship Friday with a 6 p.m. home playoff game against Sacred Heart.

Egg Bowl aftermath

The Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4 SEC) came into the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss (6-6, 3-5 SEC) as heavy favorites, only to suffer a 31-28 loss to the Rebels.  The Bulldogs won the toss at deferred and within 39 seconds, trailed Ole Miss 7-0.  The Rebels scored on a Jord
