Ethel’s fast-pitch softball team tuned up for the postseason by winning two of three contests last week.

The Lady Tigers knocked off Sebastopol 9-2 on Monday before dropping a 4-3 decision to Winona Thursday. On Friday, they rolled to a 12-2 win over Choctaw County.

The Ethel baseball team saw its 2018 season come to an end last weekend with a pair of heartbreaking losses to Salem in the MHSAA Class 1A state playoffs.

Kosciusko’s fast-pitch softball team had one last tuneup for the postseason last week, and it was quite an impressive one.

The Lady Whippets earned five total victories against Nanih Waiya, Noxubee County and North Pontotoc, and they did so with shutouts in every win.

Two one-run losses in the opening round of the MHSAA 1A baseball playoffs last week ended the season for French Camp Academy. Sacred Heart edged the Panthers 5-4 in eight innings, followed by a 7-6 decision.

“It was heartbreaking,” said coach Nathan Wright.

Kosciusko senior Thomas Brunt is among “the best of the best, the cream of the crop” in Mississippi high schools, according to Mississippi High School Activities Association executive director Don Hinton.
